BIOGRAPHY
Leonard N. Penix, J.D., Esq., a professor of journalism at the University of Cincinnati and an award-winning online news editor, has written more than 7,500 articles published in print and on the web over the course of his 32-year career in daily news journalism. Many of his stories were distributed nationwide via the Scripps-Howard, The New York Times and Associated Press wire services. Professor Penix is a licensed attorney and the author of "An Introduction to Media Law and Ethics" by Cognella Academic Publishing. He is a former director of the department of student media at the University of Cincinnati and has taught thousands of college students since 1991. He also has served as adviser for the print and online editions of The News Record, the student news organization at UC. He is a former editor of the online edition of The Cincinnati and Kentucky Post, which won a first-place award for best newspaper website in Ohio for 2006 from the Society of Professional Journalists and a second-place award from the Kentucky Press Association for best newspaper website during the same year. During three decades of work at The Post, Penix served as editor of the suburban and Sunday sections and as production supervisor. While at The Post, Penix also worked as a page designer and copy editor, assistant metro editor, columnist, bureau chief and reporter. His reportorial duties included coverage of suburbs, police, courts, city hall and county government. Penix also wrote a long-running public interest column for The Post. He has been a professor at UC for more than 25 years.
